I watched a floral designer put Johnson grass in a floral arrangement. I could not believe how beautiful it was. You see Johnson grass is a very tall grass that can take over a farmers field if not kept under control, and is considered a weed by anyone living in West Texas. Why would you want to use weeds in a floral arrangement???? Little did I know how profoundly my life would change, just because of that arrangement.

Since then I have discovered that even weeds can be beautiful. As time went by I began to really see the beauty of the "weeds" by the side of the road. The hues and colors can be incredible when seen from a distance, and natures close up details are unbelievable. The more I saw, the more I wanted to preserve these images. I found I could do this through photography.

I've found images in town, out of town, in back yards, in parks, in abandoned lots, and at different types of events. Almost all of the images you will see on my site are literally from the side of the road. Some will be within inches from the road, while others may be a short walk from the road (I'm not a long trek sort of person). All I've had to do is take a good look at the world around me. It had always been there, I just hadn't seen it before.

Although it took many years for me to come to this point in my life, I am so grateful for the chance to experience the beauty of this world and to be able to bring it to others.
I have also rediscovered an alternative form of preservation through image transfer, a process I learned while I was in college. No, don't ask how long ago that was! Image transfers are the result of a process of transferring a selected image to an alternative surface. I most often use a heavyweight vellum, or a watercolor paper of some type. Over time I have found a fine line separates photography and image transfers. Not all image transfers make a great photograph, and not all photographs make a great image transfer. Image transfers can be deceiving when viewed. They will appear sharper from a distance, while seeming to be muted when viewed from a short distance. Each transfer is done individually, so no two will ever be the same.

I hope you enjoy your visit to my site, and if there is anything I can do for you please leave feedback on my contact page.

In the future if you ever see a big red truck stopped by the side of the road, and you notice some nutty person taking pictures of the "weeds", you might want to come back for a visit in the near future to see what that "weed" looked like.
